En 1956, el Campeonato del Mundo de Marcas estaba constituido por cinco pruebas puntuables: 1000 Kilómetros de Nürburgring, 12 Horas de Sebring, Mil Millas, 1000 Kilómetros de Buenos Aires y el Gran Premio de Suecia. Suficientes… En la cita de Sebring (Estados Unidos) llamó la atención la presencia de 3 prototipos-roadster inscritos por el equipo americano “S.H.Arnolt Team”: los estilizados (y feos, pese a ser carrozados por Bertone) Arnolt-Bristol Bolide 2.0. Bajo los auspicios de un entusiasta industrial llamado Stanley Harold Arnolt (“Wacky”, para los amigos), representante e importador de firmas automovilísticas británicas (Jaguar, Rolls, Bristol…), Arnolt construyó tres unidades confiadas a Ted Boynton-Jim Peterson (ver imagen; 17º General, 3º Categoría Sport 2000), Bob Ballenger-Phil Stewart (13º General, 2º Categoría) y un tercer raodster conducido por el propio Arnolt haciendo equipo con Bob Goldich (se accidentaban). Las máquinas adaptaban motores Bristol BS1 Mk.II de seis cilindros y 2.0 litros alimentados por tres carburadores Solex y desarrollando 130 CV/6.000 r.p.m. para 910 kilos. Las dos unidades clasificadas del exultante Stanley H. Arnolt (inmediatamente después del diplomático y playboy Porfirio Rubirosa -haciendo equipo con Jim Pauley- y el Ferrari 500 Mondial II, vencedores en la categoría Sport 2000, dignificaron a toda una gran promoción de fervientes artesanos de la Costa Oeste americana.
